This was copied/pasted from KTM Talk. XC4 Valve Adjustment (XC4 is the designation for the single cam engine that as of this date has been introduced in the 08 450 & 530 EXC & XC-W-R. On this engine several procedures are going to be different than the RFS, checking is simpler, changing is slightly more complex but should not be intimidating.

The reason you use a 10w or 15w oil is so that it is thin enough at cold temps to properly lubricate. A 15w oil has the same cold cranking viscosity at -20C (-4F) as a 10w oil does at -25C (-13F). So if you never start your bike at temps less than -4 deg F you should be perfectly safe to run the higher weight viscosity (which is what I do).
Great bike still mostly stock. Still getting deceleration popping after I installed a JD jetting kit, just need to weld the exhaust to the connector adapter. Just picked up a 2009 KTM XCF (dual cam of course) 450 and need to check valves. For a company which has amazing bikes and engineering, their service manuals are absolute garbage, worthless. I cannot find TDC, after 30 mins of turning the crank end and sticking a zip tie in the spark plug hole and looking for the mark on the cam chain gear. This is the same thing as a Suzuki DRZ 400 S, except it has green plastic. The S model, at least in the USA, has lower compression, less aggressive cams, and a different carburetor, so it has about 5 hp less than the "E" version.
